The Old Testament (OT) prophets were the social conscience of their day. They were the original whistle-blowers, making themselves unpopular by bringing to public attention issues of social injustice and corruption that the ruling classes preferred were hidden. They simply reveal that today's issues are not new--they are the same old issues of sexual predators in high places allowed to get away with it, and the unbridled hunger for obscene wealth that squeezes the ordinary citizen below the poverty line.
