This subject examines the aetiology of students with special needs and historical aspects of their management, including relevant legislation. In particular the subject focuses on the current educational needs of, and provisions for, atypical students. ED300 provides pre-service teachers with a range of strategies to optimise the educational experiences and the social inclusion of children who have been mainstreamed. Emphasis is placed on the development of positive attitudes towards students with special needs, as well as on the planning and implementation of appropriate educational programs for these students
